April 17: Episode One of Nemik’s Weekly Manifesto

“Remember this, freedom is a pure idea.”

Welcome to Nemik’s Weekly Manifesto, a newsletter to educate and mobilize Star Wars fandom across races, backgrounds, and generations to rebel against real life authoritarianism in our own galaxy.

Who are we?

Get Free is a movement of Gen Z and millennials working for repair and true equality, to help us all get free from white supremacy. We have pods across the U.S. organizing young people in their local communities towards this goal  - you can read a bit about what we’re doing here.

What will be in this newsletter?

For many, Star Wars was our first introduction to the idea of resistance to fascism in fiction, even if we didn't realize it when watching as children. While certain parts of the fandom have always discussed its political ramifications, Andor's first season kicked that into overdrive, and many Star Wars fans felt galvanized by its messages. Nemik's Weekly Manifesto aims to bridge the gap between the story and messages of Andor and the real life history and theory of antifascist movements.
Star Wars is a story of antifascist rebellion, and fans like us have a unique opportunity with Andor season 2 to intervene and organize for a country not so far, far away.

Andor, the Rebellion, and IRL U.S. Politics.

To start you off and prepare for Andor season 2, here’s three things you can read, listen to, or watch to introduce these connections between Star Wars and U.S. imperialism.

Take Action

  1. Just like the Empire tried to hide its own history of genocide and enslavement, the MAGA regime is attempting to erase the real history of U.S. genocide and enslavement, for their white supremacist agenda. They’ve scrubbed government records of Black, native, disabled and transgender heroes like Harriet Tubman, Jackie Robinson, and Marsha P. Johnson. Use this form to demand your representatives preserve our history.

  2. Another important part of being a Fulcrum agent for the Rebellion is recruitment. Before Andor season 2 premieres on April 22, invite 2 friends to this newsletter so we can get the word out and build Project Fulcrum together!
